I have been asked pretty often if special tools are needed to create our Paper Scene and Paper Models.
Although the use of particular tools might help you get a better result with less effort, before anything the key for a good result is the paper.
What Paper Should You Use
- First of all, we always suggest the use of white heavy-weighted paper, or card stock ( from 150g to 250g ) for printers; the use of card stock will make the assembly process much easier and will give the paper model a more solid structure.
- Be sure that you are using matte paper. Especially if you are going to print a Paper Scene, you would want to have a matte surface in order to reduce surface reflections.
- Use smooth paper. If you are going to use some card stock sheets you already have at home, be sure that is has a smooth and uniform surface. We do not recommend paper with a rough surface.
- We suggest the use of white paper to get accurate and vivid colors.
- Make sure you are using a A4 paper size.
You can find some good paper packs in Amazon. Make sure that the paper suitable for your printer (whether ink-jet or laser); is here there are a few samples:
Do I Need a Specific Printer Model?
Although there are a lot of different printer models and brands and some of them make better outputs than others, in general, all modern printers should provide you with good results. Of course, laser printers provide the best results, and if you happen to have a laser printer then you should not have any problem. However, modern Inkjet printers also work perfectly and can make beautiful prints. Canon or Epson are two of the top brands when we talk about printers and if you are looking for a new printer, here there are a few suggestions:
Paper crafting tools
Here there are a few implements that you might find useful for paper crafting:
- Cutter knife for crafts: it might be very useful when you have to cut small parts or flaps. There are two different types of cutter that I think are more suitable for paper crafting:
- Cutting mat: if you are going to use a cutter you might want to protect your desk from scratches, so I recommend you to always use a cutting mat:
- Crafting Scissors and Scissors with rounded tips : if you are going to have fun crafting with your kids do not forget to give them scissors with rounded tips!
- Glue: We suggest to use a quick-dry glue with a precision tip or a adhesive appicator:
- Ruler: whatever kind you have will do just fine.
- Bone folder: if you do not know this little tool, it is very common in paper crafting. It is used to score the folding lines using a ruler. In this way the folding process is easier and more accurate.
